The line items

The inspection itself is a few hundred dollars. That is the part people get quoted.

The pump-out is the bigger share, and it is not really optional. An inspector cannot evaluate tank walls, baffles or the outlet through a full tank, so pumping is part of doing the job properly. Cost scales with tank size, and a 1,500 gallon tank costs more to empty and dispose of than a 1,000.

Digging up the lids is the wildcard. If your system has risers bringing the lids to grade, this is minutes.
